Large-room listings state coverage on different bases: square feet in one hour, in 30 minutes, in 12.5 minutes, or at 4.8 air changes per hour. A big number on one listing can describe a slower rate than a smaller number on another. This guide shows each figure with its basis and then does the arithmetic for a real room.
The quick answer: the Blueair Blue 211i Max states the largest figure, 3,235 sq ft in one hour, but no CADR. The Levoit Core 600S-P lists 2,933 sq ft per hour and a CADR of 391 CFM, and the Medify MA-50 lists 2,640 sq ft per hour and a CADR of 598. Those two are the only listings with a CADR at or above the 390 cfm the EPA chart gives for a 600 sq ft room.
How we chose and what the listings leave out
We read eight Amazon listings on 2026-10-17 and did not test any of them. Each one states a coverage of roughly 1,700 sq ft or more, or is titled for large rooms. We ordered them by the largest stated figure and then checked which ones add a CADR.
- CADR is stated by four of the eight. The Levoit Core 600S-P and Medify MA-50 give one number each and do not name the pollutant. The Levoit Vital 200S-P and Core 400S-P give separate smoke, dust and pollen figures.
- Coverage bases differ. Some listings use one hour, some 30 minutes, some 12.5 minutes, and the Vital 200S-P states no time basis.
- Noise is stated for only three models, and each figure is a low-speed or minimum figure.
- The EPA guide gives its chart for an 8-foot ceiling and says higher ceilings call for a unit sized for a larger area. No listing says what ceiling its coverage assumes.

Worked example: a 30 by 20 foot living room
For example, a living room that is 30 ft by 20 ft is 600 sq ft. The EPA sizing chart lists a minimum CADR of 390 cfm for 600 sq ft, based on an 8-foot ceiling. Of the four listings that state a CADR, the Levoit Core 600S-P at 391 is 1 above that line and the Medify MA-50 at 598 is well above it, if both figures are for the same kind of particle as the chart. The Levoit Vital 200S-P (smoke 250, dust 254, pollen 289) and Core 400S-P (smoke 231, dust 240, pollen 259) are all below 390.
The coverage figures can be put on one scale. A listing that says 674 sq ft in 12.5 minutes describes 4.8 air changes per hour (60 divided by 12.5), and 674 x 4.8 is 3,235, which is the Blueair one-hour figure. The Winix does the same: 392 x 4.8 is 1,882. So the big one-hour number is the same unit at one air change per hour. On the stricter 4.8-per-hour basis, the Blueair (674) and the Levoit Core 600S-P (606) are above 600 sq ft, while the Winix (392) and the Honeywell (354) are below it. The Core 600S-P clears the room by only 6 sq ft, and the EPA guide says a ceiling above 8 feet means you should size up.
Figures that conflict or look odd on the listings
- The Winix 5520 is titled “Up to 1882 Ft² in 1 Hr” and its bullet gives 1,882 sq ft, while the AHAM Verifide room size is 392 sq ft. The two figures are the same machine at different air-change rates, not a contradiction.
- The Honeywell HPA4300W gives 354 sq ft at 4.8 times per hour and 1,718 sq ft at 1 time per hour. Its title says “Up to 1718 Ft² Coverage for Large Rooms”.
- The Levoit Vital 200S-P states 1,875 sq ft with no time basis in the bullets.
- The Medify MA-50 lists a weight of 5.76 ounces, and the Blueair 211i Max lists 1.8 kg. Both look inconsistent with the dimensions, so check them on the listing.
- The Levoit Core 600S-P gives a CADR of 391 CFM without saying which pollutant it measures.

Mistakes to avoid
- Picking the largest number. A 3,235 sq ft one-hour figure and a 674 sq ft 12.5-minute figure can describe the same unit, as the worked example shows.
- Forgetting the rest of an open floor plan. The EPA guide says to consider the entire space the air cleaner would serve.
- Ignoring ceiling height. The EPA chart assumes an 8-foot ceiling, and the guide says higher ceilings call for a unit sized for a larger area.
- Running one unit at its lowest speed in a big room. The EPA guide says an air cleaner filters less air at a lower speed, and the noise figures stated here are low-speed figures.
Who should skip buying
Skip this list if your room is under about 300 sq ft. These listings are built for bigger spaces, and a smaller model with a coverage figure at 4.8 air changes per hour may fit better. Skip it too if your space is larger than any single figure here. The EPA guide says that if an area is larger than any available product will serve, you could consider using multiple air cleaners.
What the EPA guide says
The US EPA guide to air cleaners was opened on 2026-10-17 and shows “Last updated on October 1, 2026”. It gives the sizing chart used above (65 cfm for 100 sq ft up to 390 cfm for 600 sq ft, for an 8-foot ceiling), tells you to multiply length by width and compare the result with the maximum room size on the packaging, and says to consider the entire space in an open floor plan. Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a purifier fits my large room?
Multiply the room length by the width to get square feet, then compare it with the coverage on the listing, using the same time basis. The EPA guide also gives a minimum CADR for each room area, for example 390 cfm for 600 sq ft with an 8-foot ceiling.
Does up to 3,235 sq ft mean the room is cleaned that well?
Not necessarily. The Blueair listing states 674 sq ft in 12.5 minutes, which is 4.8 air changes per hour, and 3,235 sq ft in one hour, which is the same unit counted at one air change per hour.
Which listings state a CADR?
The Levoit Core 600S-P states 391 CFM and the Medify MA-50 states 598, both without naming the pollutant. The Levoit Vital 200S-P and Core 400S-P each split theirs into smoke, dust and pollen. The other four listings state none.
What if my ceilings are higher than 8 feet?
The EPA guide says its CADRs are calculated for an 8-foot ceiling and that with higher ceilings you should consider a unit sized for a larger area.
Should I use two smaller units instead of one big one?
Yes, if one unit cannot serve the space. The EPA guide names multiple air cleaners as an option for such an area, and it asks you to count the whole space in an open floor plan.
Do the large-room models run quietly?
Only some state a noise figure. The Medify MA-50 lists 22 dB minimum and 59 dB maximum, the Winix 5520 lists 23.5 dB on its slowest speed and the Levoit Core 400S-P lists as low as 24 dB. The EPA guide notes that noise depends in part on fan speed.
