The right dehumidifier depends on how much water the room puts in the air and how you will empty the tank. This guide compares six models from their Amazon listings, and it shows the figures where a listing contradicts itself.

The quick answer: for a damp basement or a large open space, start with the Waykar 80-pint or the Frigidaire 50-pint, because both list large capacities and continuous drainage. For one bathroom, closet or small room, the hOmeLabs Small Space model is built for that size. We read the listings on 2026-10-17 and did not test any unit, so this page ranks nothing by performance. How we chose and what the listings leave out

All six are dehumidifiers on Amazon, picked to cover large-room compressor models and small thermoelectric models. The criteria are the capacity per day, the room area, the tank size, the drain option, and the power draw. The word “rated” in the search phrase is not used here as a claim, because this page shows no star ratings or review counts.

  • Five of the six listings do not state a noise figure in decibels. Only the Waykar lists one, about 42 dB.
  • Three listings contradict themselves on capacity, area or weight. The conflicts are shown in a separate section.
  • The Friedrich listing gives almost no description. Its bullet text is only “Great tools at a great price”, and the figures come from its specs table.

Specs side by side (from the listings, checked 2026-10-17)

Model (ASIN) Listed capacity Listed area Tank Power Size and weight
Waykar 80 Pint (B0B5V2YZPZ) 80 pints per day at 95 F, 90% RH 5,000 sq ft 1.14 gal; 3.3 ft hose included 270 W; 165 cfm 19.29 x 13.58 x 12.6 in; 31 lb
Frigidaire 50 Pint (B0FP1L6W89) 50 pints per day 4500 (no unit given) 2.7 gal; continuous draining listed 470 W; 235 cfm; 115 V 12.19 x 24.25 x 24.25 in; 44.5 lb
Honeywell 32-Pint TPFIT32WK (B0DQWPNGV1) 32 pints per day 3,000 sq ft 4.7 L; continuous drain tube 320 W; 170 cfm; 115 V 9 x 12.2 x 19.7 in; 28.8 lb
Friedrich 35 Pint (B0BXV9J4LJ) 35 pints per day Not stated 16.2 pints; 15 ft drain pump in the title Not stated 26 x 17 x 15 in; weight listed as 1 lb
Ivation IVADM35 (B00GZ5BSBY) 20 pints per day in the table; 20 oz in the title 2200 sq ft in the table; 2,200 cubic feet in the title 68 fl oz 12 W 6.8 x 8.5 x 14 in; 6.85 lb in the table, 4.45 lb in the bullet
hOmeLabs Small Space (B072C3NMK1) 9 oz per day in the bullet; 9 pints per day in the table 150 sq ft 500 ml (16 oz) 22.5 W in the table; 25W adapter in the bullet; 110 V 5.3 x 6.5 x 8.5 in; 2.6 lb

Worked example: how fast does the tank fill?

A listed capacity in pints per day only helps if you know how often you will empty the tank. One US gallon is 8 pints, so a tank in gallons converts easily. The list below divides each tank by the listed daily capacity. The result is the shortest time to a full tank, because the capacity figures come from the listings and real rates are usually lower in drier air.

  • Waykar: 1.14 gal x 8 = 9.1 pints. At 80 pints per day that is 9.1 / 80 x 24, about 2.7 hours. This is why the listing includes a 3.3 ft drain hose for continuous drainage.
  • Honeywell: 4.7 L is about 9.9 pints. At 32 pints per day, about 7.4 hours.
  • Frigidaire: 2.7 gal x 8 = 21.6 pints. At 50 pints per day, about 10.4 hours.
  • Friedrich: 16.2 pints at 35 pints per day, about 11.1 hours.
  • hOmeLabs: the 500 ml tank is about 1.06 pints. If the table is right at 9 pints per day, that is under 3 hours. If the bullet is right at 9 ounces per day, the tank lasts about 1.9 days. The two readings differ by a factor of 16.

The point: if you cannot be home to empty a tank twice a day, pick a model with a drain option, or keep the unit where a hose can reach a floor drain.

Conflicting figures on the listings

  • hOmeLabs: the bullet says it extracts up to 9 ounces (250 ml) of moisture daily. The specs table lists 9 pints per day. We cannot tell which is right. A thermoelectric unit this small with a 500 ml tank is consistent with the 9 ounce figure, but this is our reading, not a stated fact.
  • Ivation: the title and a bullet say up to 20 ounces of water per day, and the table lists 20 pints per day. The title says spaces up to 2,200 cubic feet, and the table says 2200 square feet. The bullet gives 4.45 lb and the table gives 6.85 lb.
  • Friedrich: the weight is listed as 1 lb, which does not fit a unit that is 26 inches deep. The listing’s other figures are shown as written.
  • Frigidaire: the area is listed as 4500 with no unit. We assume square feet but the listing does not say.
  • Waykar: the 80 pints per day figure is stated at 95 F and 90% relative humidity, which is a hot, very damp condition. A cool basement will usually remove less.

The six dehumidifiers

1. Waykar 80 Pint (B0B5V2YZPZ): the largest listed area here

  • Best for: a large damp space where you want continuous drainage out of the box.
  • Skip if: you want a small unit. It is 31 lb and 19.29 inches deep, and the listing gives a noise of around 42 dB.
  • Listing specs, checked 2026-10-17: 80 pints per day at 95 F and 90% RH; 5,000 sq ft; ENERGY STAR certified (listing text); 30% to 80% humidity control; 24-hour timer; auto defrost; washable filter; 3.3 ft drain hose with a 3/4 inch garden hose connection.

2. Frigidaire 50 Pint with WiFi (B0FP1L6W89): a mid-size unit with a programmable control

  • Best for: a large room or basement where the 2.7 gal tank and a programmable control suit you.
  • Skip if: you need a stated noise figure or an ENERGY STAR statement. The listing gives neither, and it describes the WiFi only in the title.
  • Listing specs, checked 2026-10-17: 50 pints per day; 2.7 gal tank; 3 speeds; 470 W; 235 cfm; washable filter; continuous draining; programmable; front-loading bucket with carrying handle and splash guard; 12.19 x 24.25 x 24.25 in; 44.5 lb.

3. Honeywell 32-Pint TPFIT32WK (B0DQWPNGV1): narrow footprint with a laundry mode

  • Best for: a basement, laundry area or crawl space of moderate size where a narrower body helps (9 inches deep, 12.2 inches wide).
  • Skip if: you want the largest tank. At 4.7 L it fills in about 7.4 hours at the listed maximum rate.
  • Listing specs, checked 2026-10-17: 32 pints per day; 3,000 sq ft; 320 W; 170 cfm; 2 speeds; laundry mode and auto-comfort mode; 24-hour timer; tank-full alert; continuous drain tube; washable filter; ENERGY STAR (listing text); 28.8 lb. The listing says it “undergoes 11 rigorous safety checks”, which we cannot verify.

4. Friedrich 35 Pint with Drain Pump (B0BXV9J4LJ): the pump model

  • Best for: a spot where gravity drainage is not possible and the title’s 15 ft drain pump is the reason to buy.
  • Skip if: you want a detailed listing. It states no wattage, area, noise or voltage, and the weight of 1 lb looks like an error.
  • Listing specs, checked 2026-10-17: 35 pints per day; 16.2 pint tank; 2 speeds; 26 x 17 x 15 in; metal and plastic; white.
  • View the Friedrich 35 Pint on Amazon (affiliate link)

5. Ivation IVADM35 (B00GZ5BSBY): thermoelectric with no moving parts

  • Best for: a bathroom, RV, boat or attic corner where silence matters more than capacity.
  • Skip if: you need to dry a whole basement. The bullet says up to 20 oz per day, and even the generous table figure is 20 pints.
  • Listing specs, checked 2026-10-17: Peltier thermoelectric module with no moving parts; 12 W; 68 fl oz tank; 1 speed; upper temperature rating 86 F; indicator lights and auto shut-off at capacity; 6.8 x 8.5 x 14 in.

6. hOmeLabs Small Space (B072C3NMK1): closets, bathrooms and gun safes

  • Best for: an enclosed space of up to 150 sq ft (the specs table figure), such as a closet, a bathroom or a safe.
  • Skip if: the space is a damp basement. Even the larger reading of the capacity is 9 pints per day.
  • Listing specs, checked 2026-10-17: thermoelectric peltier module; 500 ml tank; auto shut-off with an LED indicator when the tank is full; 22.5 W; 110 V; 5.3 x 6.5 x 8.5 in; 2.6 lb.

What the EPA says about humidity and moisture

The US EPA guide to mold and moisture says to keep indoor relative humidity below 60 percent, ideally between 30 and 50 percent. It says to use air conditioners and dehumidifiers when needed, and to dry water-damaged areas and items within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth. It also says to fix the water problem and plumbing leaks as soon as possible, and that it is impossible to get rid of all mold and mold spores indoors. In other words, a dehumidifier helps control humidity, but it does not replace repairing a leak. The EPA says relative humidity can be measured with an inexpensive moisture or humidity meter, so a meter shows whether a unit is holding the room under 60 percent. The EPA page was last updated February 18, 2026 and we opened it on 2026-10-17. Source: US EPA, A Brief Guide to Mold, Moisture and Your Home.

Mistakes to avoid and who should skip buying

  • Do not treat the listed area as a guarantee. The area figures are the sellers’ own, and the capacity figure is tied to test conditions, as the Waykar listing shows.
  • Do not buy a unit for a leaking space before the leak is repaired.
  • Do not ignore the drain. A small tank on a large unit means emptying it several times a day.
  • Check a humidity meter first. If it already reads inside the EPA’s 30 to 50 percent range, a dehumidifier may add little, and running one in an already dry room only lowers humidity further.

Frequently asked questions

What humidity level should I aim for?

The EPA says to keep indoor relative humidity below 60 percent, ideally between 30 and 50 percent.

Which model here has the largest listed capacity?

The Waykar lists 80 pints per day at 95 F and 90% RH, and 5,000 sq ft. The Frigidaire lists 50 pints per day, the Friedrich 35, and the Honeywell 32.

Which models drain without emptying a tank?

The Waykar lists a 3.3 ft hose, the Honeywell a continuous drain tube, the Frigidaire continuous draining, and the Friedrich a 15 ft drain pump in its title.

Why do some listings disagree with themselves?

The hOmeLabs and Ivation listings give daily capacity in ounces in one place and pints in another. We show both rather than choose one, and we suggest checking the figure with the seller before you buy.

Does a dehumidifier fix mold?

No. The EPA says to fix the water problem and says mold growth is prevented or controlled by controlling moisture. A dehumidifier helps with moisture control only.

Should I check the price?

Yes. This page does not show prices. Check the current price on Amazon before you buy.
